Ten years have passed since the International Congress Genius Loci: places and meanings (2016) and aware of the transformations that the world has undergone during this period of time, the DHS - Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto relaunches this Scientific Meeting in 2026 in an updated edition, aware of the challenges and needs facing the social sciences today. The event, however, continues to celebrate three decades of specialised teaching and research in the fields of Archeology, ArtHistory and Museology developed at DHS, as well as in the promotion and intervention of heritage.

This 2.0 edition of Genius Loci is expected to receive contributions that address the conceptual, epistemological, and technological advancements that characterise scientific research in Heritage Studies currently. Framed within the strategic plan of CITCEM 2025-29, centred on the theme "Finding communities and expanding dialogues", Genius Loci 2.0: places and meanings welcomes proposals that present multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary approaches, framed within one of the following thematic sections:

  • Architecture
  • Sacred spaces
  • Heritage management
  • Images and context
  • Transition worlds
  • Vernacular
  • Landscapes, territories & mobilities

Each section will include lectures given by prestigious invited experts (40 minutes), followed by presentations (20 minutes). Participation will also be possible through poster presentations, provided they fit the themes of the respective sections.

Proposals for papers and posters may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.
