Poder-se-\u00e1 dizer que Illich n\u00e3o s\u00f3 prolongou a grande tradi\u00e7\u00e3o do pensamento cr\u00edtico, como a renovou no contacto com os mais diversos horizontes culturais. Senhor de uma subtil e inusitada combina\u00e7\u00e3o do legado filos\u00f3fico e teol\u00f3gico da cultura europeia com o conhecimento das culturas vern\u00e1culas que entendeu mais atentas \u00e0 convivialidade e a outros saberes, ele foi elaborando, ao longo dos anos, perspectivas ousadas sobre as aporias que as nossas sociedades industriais t\u00eam vindo a acumular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passados cem anos sobre o seu nascimento, a evoca\u00e7\u00e3o de uma tal figura n\u00e3o poder\u00e1 resumir-se \u00e0 simples recapitula\u00e7\u00e3o do seu trabalho intelectual ou do seu percurso p\u00fablico. Isto pela simples raz\u00e3o de uma parte substancial da sua obra ser ainda pouco conhecida e raramente ter sido objecto de estudo sistem\u00e1tico nas duas d\u00e9cadas que decorreram desde o seu desaparecimento. Marcada pelo per\u00edodo (anos 1970-80) em que o seu pensamento foi quase universalmente conhecido e discutido, a reputa\u00e7\u00e3o do autor de&nbsp;<em>A Convivialidade<\/em> foi suscitando vivo interesse em p\u00fablicos diversificados, mas n\u00e3o permitiu a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de uma vis\u00e3o de conjunto do seu legado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esse \u00e9 o desafio que se abre hoje \u00e0queles que pretendem evoc\u00e1-lo. H\u00e1 sinais que v\u00e3o nesse sentido: neste ano do centen\u00e1rio, diversas iniciativas em torno do seu pensamento \u2013 col\u00f3quios, investiga\u00e7\u00e3o, novas edi\u00e7\u00f5es \u2013 t\u00eam tido lugar em diversos pa\u00edses. Fil\u00f3sofos, te\u00f3logos, soci\u00f3logos, artistas, educadores e muitos outros t\u00eam revisitado Illich, beneficiando das perspectivas abertas pela dist\u00e2ncia temporal e pela renova\u00e7\u00e3o da sua recep\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por essa raz\u00e3o, e porque Illich n\u00e3o pertenceu a nenhuma escola ou dom\u00ednio, esta iniciativa \u00e9 partilhada por um espectro amplo de \u00e1reas acad\u00e9micas, art\u00edsticas e sociais j\u00e1 interessadas na sua vida e obra ou em vias de as descobrir nesta ocasi\u00e3o. E porque Illich foi um pensador sempre capaz de surpreender mesmo aqueles que o seguiam atentamente quando manifestava facetas que n\u00e3o \u00e9 comum encontrar reunidos na mesma personalidade, ele pede-nos uma revisita\u00e7\u00e3o o mais poss\u00edvel abrangente das interconex\u00f5es por ele suscitadas, das mais conhecidas \u00e0quelas que t\u00eam permanecido quase confidenciais. Percorrendo perspectivas semiol\u00f3gicas, s\u00f3cio-pol\u00edticas, ecol\u00f3gicas, urban\u00edsticas, teol\u00f3gicas e filos\u00f3ficas, entre outras, a obra de Ivan Illich parece ter sido destinada pelo seu autor \u00e0 incompletude: n\u00e3o aquela pr\u00f3pria da vicissitude biogr\u00e1fica, mas a incompletude que acolhe e se deixa continuar por aqueles que a descobrem.&nbsp;<em>Obra aberta<\/em>, pois, no seu sentido liter\u00e1rio, filos\u00f3fico e pragm\u00e1tico, ela readquire um novo sentido de actualidade, uma actualidade temporal e textualmente profunda, como Illich a entendia e praticava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dados estes pressupostos, decidimos reunir \u00e0s iniciativas mais usuais nestas comemora\u00e7\u00f5es, como o s\u00e3o a retrospectiva de um legado e a homenagem a um autor, o convite ao di\u00e1logo com as circunst\u00e2ncias nossas contempor\u00e2neas. Desde logo porque Illich, mais do que uma figura que se destacou numa ou mais actividades, foi aquele que questionou o sentido e a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o social da&nbsp;<em>pr\u00e1xis<\/em>&nbsp;intelectual, laboral e social, ele que foi sempre, na igreja, na sociedade ou na universidade, o cr\u00edtico determinante da penetra\u00e7\u00e3o dos modelos de produtividade industrial nos mais diversos dom\u00ednios e o int\u00e9rprete da \u00abtopologia mental\u00bb da modernidade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A configura\u00e7\u00e3o desta iniciativa n\u00e3o podia, portanto, limitar-se \u00e0 reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o do fechamento institucional que Illich sempre criticou. Para isso, privilegiar-se-\u00e1 a articula\u00e7\u00e3o entre institui\u00e7\u00f5es acad\u00e9micas e espa\u00e7os sociais com estatutos diversos. Destacamos aqui oito dom\u00ednios que podem acolher trabalhos e iniciativas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) A t\u00e9cnica: os sistemas e as concep\u00e7\u00f5es do utens\u00edlio;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) A cr\u00edtica do desenvolvimento e a contra-produtividade;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) A actualidade das pr\u00e1ticas vernaculares;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) Corpo, proporcionalidade e a aliena\u00e7\u00e3o da experi\u00eancia;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>e) A convivialidade e a cr\u00edtica das institui\u00e7\u00f5es;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>f) O te\u00f3logo diante da era industrial: entre o pensamento medieval e a condi\u00e7\u00e3o contempor\u00e2nea;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>g) A semiologia illichiana: as artes, os sentidos e as media\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>h) &nbsp; Um percurso intelectual: os elementos biogr\u00e1ficos e bibliogr\u00e1ficos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column il-col-en il-col-en-margin has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default\"><strong>PRESENTATION OF THE SCIENTIFIC, SOCIAL, AND CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS MARKING THE CENTENARY OF IVAN ILLICH<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he gained widespread recognition in the 1970s thanks to a series of incisive works that profoundly challenged the institutional assumptions of key sectors of modern society, Ivan Illich (1926\u20132002) never confined himself to being a polemicist or an observer of the world of his time, almost always preferring an approach in which historical and philosophical depth shed light from within on the contemporary practices he critically examined. It could be said that Illich not only continued the great tradition of critical thought but also renewed it through engagement with the most diverse cultural horizons. Master of a subtle and unusual combination of the philosophical and theological legacy of European culture with an understanding of vernacular cultures that he perceived as more attentive to conviviality and other forms of knowledge, he developed, over the years, bold perspectives on the aporias that our industrial societies have been accumulating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hundred years after his birth, the commemoration of such a figure cannot be reduced to a mere recapitulation of his intellectual work or his public career. This is simply because a substantial part of his work remains little known and has rarely been the subject of systematic study in the two decades since his passing. Marked by the period (the 1970s and 1980s) when his thought was almost universally known and discussed, the author of <em>Tools for Conviviality<\/em> enjoyed a reputation that aroused keen interest among diverse audiences but did not allow for an overall view of his legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the challenge facing those who wish to commemorate him today. There are signs pointing in this direction: in this centenary year, various initiatives centred on his thought \u2013 colloquia, research, new editions \u2013 have been taking place in various countries. Philosophers, theologians, sociologists, artists, educators and many others have been revisiting Illich, benefiting from the perspectives opened up by the passage of time and the renewal of his reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, and because Illich did not belong to any particular school or discipline, this initiative is shared by a broad spectrum of academic, artistic, and social fields already interested in his life and work or in the process of discovering them on this occasion. And because Illich was a thinker always capable of surprising even those who followed him closely when he revealed facets not commonly found together in the same personality, he calls on us to undertake as comprehensive a revisitation as possible of the interconnections he raised, from the best known to those that have remained almost confidential. Spanning semiological, socio-political, ecological, urban, theological, and philosophical perspectives, among others, Ivan Illich\u2019s work seems to have been destined by its author for incompleteness: not that inherent in biographical vicissitudes, but the incompleteness that welcomes and allows itself to be continued by those who discover it. An open work, then, in its literary, philosophical, and pragmatic sense, it regains a new sense of relevance, a relevance that is both temporal and textually profound, as Illich understood and practiced it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given these premises, we have decided to combine the most common initiatives in such commemorations\u2014such as a retrospective of a legacy and a tribute to an author\u2014with an invitation to dialogue with our contemporary circumstances. First and foremost because Illich, rather than a figure who stood out in one or more activities, was the one who questioned the meaning and social organisation of intellectual, labour and social praxis; he who was always, in the church, in society or in the university, the decisive critic of the penetration of industrial productivity models into the most diverse domains and the interpreter of the \u2018mental topology\u2019 of modernity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure of this initiative could not, therefore, be limited to reproducing the institutional insularity that Illich always criticized. To this end, priority will be given to the articulation between academic institutions and social spaces with diverse statuses.
